The fonds consists of records documenting Juda Quastel's activities as a scientist from 1917 to 1987. Series include biographical information; correspondence; presentations and lectures; scientific research, notes, and data; written reports, published and unpublished materials; photographs, slides, glass plates, and audiovisual material. Collectively, these records reflect Quastel's various scientific roles as researcher, professor, author, and public speaker. Some records (i.e. particular correspondence and photographs) also reveal Quastel's personal life as husband and father. Juda Quastel is remembered for his important scientific research contributions in cancer, soil metabolism, cell metabolism, and neurochemistry. Born in Sheffield, Yorkshire, England in 1899, Quastel began his successful career in the life sciences as a lab assistant at the St. Georges Hospital for the British Army from 1917-1919. Quastel studied chemistry at Imperial College London and pursued graduate work at Cambridge University. He received a PhD in biochemistry in 1924 followed by a doctorat...
